Finale animation for a weekly strip, The Fancy, about an elephant who steals a girl’s shoes in order to fly. Part photo diary, the series uses photographs from my walks to work while living in San Francisco. Starting with the premise of a teakettle’s whistled revelation of a magic pair of shoes, the elephant goes about trying to realize her dream of owning them.

It is inspired in part by the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, “The Red Shoes“. This cautionary tale of desire resonated with me at the time because I was struggling with the decision to quit my job and strike out on my own.
